Shaker Village Flower Garden

10" tall X 8" wide

This chalk pastel comes from a plein air painting I made with visiting the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill outside of Lexington, Kentucky. The Shakers were a small religous sect with a few communes that existed in the 1700-1800's and were a branch off the Quakers. They don't exist anymore, but some of their communities were preserved, like this one. I loved spending time in their flower gardens and walking around their peaceful hilltop property overlooking a beautiful valley and lake.
